In 1990, Michael's Gems and Glass was established as the first retail outlet of rocks and minerals on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Everyone was skeptical about how rocks would sell at the beach but almost 20 years and multiple stores later Michael's is often a favorite destination for many visitors who vacation every year on the Outer Banks.  Children especially like digging through the treasure barrel looking for that special gem or making their own piece of jewelry that will remind them, until next year, of the fun they had at the beach!!!

         Through this website we hope to bring some of this fun to you or, if you've visited our store while on vacation, to make our products accessible to you year-round!!!           Simply mouse over a product and immediately a magnifier comes to life and you can examine the item very closely in superb detail. If you click on the product and don't use the magnifier, it will give you an enlargement. We were impressed with this feature. It's almost as good as being at one of our shops in person.
